How To End The Parkrun Fear!

How To End The Parkrun Fear!

I started going to parkrun in February 2016 and ever since then I have been glued to the countryside 5km run around Nowton Park. I have never been over weight but equally I have never been described as what you may call athletic and a natural runner. I will never forget my first run which all I can describe was like a near death experience with a tight knot in my lungs, my thighs feeling like jelly and the disappointing feeling of not being the runner I hoped I became over night without trying. Realising that it was going to take some time and dedication to become a comfortable runner with an half average completion time I never looked back and continue to set my alarm every Saturday morning for the parkrun.

From meeting the other fellow park runners I realised that some were there to seek the pure enjoyment from it, some were there to compete and get the fastest time and some were there to socialise with the local community. Looking around each week there are all sorts of people women, men, old, young and all sorts of shapes and sizes. No one judges you on your ability if you would prefer to walk, speed walk, jog or sprint you can complete the 5km in any way which suits you, it is not a race against any other runners it is whatever you want it to be. It is a great way of keeping fit, having fun, staying active and a good way to see your fitness improve!

Don’t let your first parkrun put you off it gets easier every time and the best part is that it is completely free! For more information on parkrun a useful website is: http://www.parkrun.org.uk/burystedmunds/aboutus/
